Home Based Travel Professional

Get Out There

Get out and meet your neighbors and get involved in your community. If you have a bit of down time consider using that time wisely to build your business by being social. You may be amazed to find the scope of businesses in your area that probably need your services but just don’t know what you do. If you have never had time to join the chamber, now is a perfect time. Take the time to build your business socially. It will not only help you get the word out about what you do, but you will probably feel better getting out and about.  Take a look at collaborating with other businesses and professionals to build both your businesses as a team.

Clean –up your office

Spring clean no matter what time of year it is. You will be astounded at how good it feels to clean out the cobwebs on the desk and in the files. It somehow reenergizes the psyche to have a clean slate so to speak. Don’t just stop at your desk and file cabinets but clean up that computer filing system as well. Look at rearranging the furniture to give you a sense of “newness”.  Take advantage of down time and make it work for you so when that phone starts ringing you are ready to rock and roll.  Good rule of thumb is to toss things you have not touched in a year at least or file it away where you can find it if needed out of the office!

Focus on Education

Take classes to help you hon up on skills you need and have never had time to learn. Perhaps you have always wanted to learn a new software program or even a language. What a great time to focus on the future success of your businesses by investing in your continued education.  Attend trade shows and events, so that you can network and bond with other who have similar interests. Perhaps you have always wanted to achieve a travel industry designation and what better time to focus on a positive? Education is an investment in you and your business.

Get Involved in Your Trade Association

Look at getting more involved in your trade association so that you can have a part in the future of the group’s direction and focus. Your opinion counts. Just ask any trade association what makes them the happiest and that is having members who are involved and promoting the future of the association. If they don’t want to hear from you, perhaps you have the wrong association membership and you need to find one that suits your needs and one that you can believe in work with.

Take Responsibility

You are the solution to any problem that comes your way. You can always call upon your entrepreneurial spirit to re-energize and re-motivate yourself.  You want your travel business to succeed and your true desire for success and your determination can take you there. Don’t let distractions that take you away from your goal get in the way of your spirit and determination.

Reading a good marketing book or a book on sales success can really get your engines started. When you read about successful businesses either in travel or in other fields, it not only gives you great ideas but it also provides you with reference material for making your plan happen.  I still think a great book would be “Chicken Soup for the Travel Professional”. By golly, that’s it! I now have a plan….
