Floriade, Keukenhof The famous Oberammergau passion play take place once every 10 years and so does the big and spectacular Dutch horticultural Floriade Show which runs next year between 5th April and 7th October. Most travel planners with this big event on their radar may well have concentrated on a largely Holland-based programme for their garden tour but if you look a little closer, you’ll see what I’ve spotted which is a very small window which flies open between 17th and 25th May when you can bring together: · A full day at the Keukenhof Gardens · A visit to the Palace of Het Loo (the Dutch Versailles) · A memorable day Floriade 2012 · A ride on the Eurostar to Ashford in Kent · Visits to stunning Sissinghurst Castle Gardens, award winning Pashley Manor and 13th century Hever Castle AND HERE’S THE BIT THAT’S BEEN MISSED · A day at the 2012 Chelsea Flower Show. The net price (you determine the commission level for this unique tour) is £1399 per person (sharing) for 20 pax and £1499 per person (sharing) for 15 pax. If your garden club, botanic garden or herb society can’t travel in the spring because they are too busy in their own gardens/with their own spring time events, that small window opens again in early July (and well before things go mad with the Olympic Games), which is when you can combine the UK with Holland again by offering them · some stunning English rose gardens and herbaceous borders filled to overflowing · a day at the internationally renowned Hampton Court Flower Show · the ride on the Eurostar · The Dutch itinerary as listed above but without the Keukenhof which closes as Chelsea opens in May. The net price (commission rate set by you) for 20 pax is £1199 per person (sharing) and for 15 pax it is £ 1289 per person (sharing). If garden tours are your thing, you’ll have to move smartly on these unique tours because the next time they all come together like this is in May and July 2022. Can you really wait that long? Looking at another niche market, if you have contacts with an Orchid Society, using off season air fares and our competitive winter hotel rates, I can also offer you a very well priced 4 night London programme (plus extensions) in February which includes: · A day at the Kew Gardens Tropical Extravaganza which will really banish those winter blues · A visit to the Oxford Botanic garden (founded in 1621) · A special tour of the fabulous glasshouses at the Royal Horticultural Society garden at Wisley · Perhaps an actor led tour of the Theatre Royal Drury Lane prior to an early supper and the West End Performance of your choice Between 16th – 22nd April, the UK will also be celebrating National Garden Week when all sorts of events both large and small, celebrations and happenings will be taking place all over the country. AND GUESS WHAT You can spend 3 garden filled days in England, probably in the Kent or Sussex countryside and then, with a Eurostar journey add a further 3-4 days so that you can visit the Palace of Het Loo, the Keukenhof Gardens and Floriade 2012. What’s keeping you? Send me an email and let’s start growing a customized garden tour to some of Europe’s top 2012 garden shows.
