Taking care of brand U…
By Cory Andrichuk

Most successful home-based entrepreneurs are great at setting professional goals.  We understand that our business only begins to become a great business when you clearly identify what it is that you want, make a plan to achieve it and then work on that plan every single day.  However, setting goals in only one area of your life is kind of like hopping on one leg to get to your destination; you might eventually get to where you want to go, but it’s going to be so much quicker by using both legs!

Sage advice given to me by my first business coach Steve when I launched my own home based business coaching practise was, “Balance is Beautiful”.  I was no stranger to a home office, as I have been home-based for the last 15 years with the cruise lines and more before, and knew all too well of certain luxuries from working at home!  Coach Steve’s saying rang through me for months and still rings in my head… “Balance is Beautiful”.  Until recently though, I candidly struggled with the balance part.  I have always worked hard and achieved most professional goals, but rarely set personal goals to match my professional ones.

Taking care of brand U means that we must place an equal amount of time on our personal goals as we place on our professional ones.  Achieving revenue goals and monetary rewards will mean nothing when you’re lying in the hospital alone, or consistently sick, unhealthy or depressed and unable to enjoy your loved ones!  Sometimes I find that we need a reminder to aim or even permission to aim high in our personal lives as we do in our professional lives.

B.J. Marshall said it best… "If you aim at nothing, you’ll hit it every time."

Your personal brand is a combination and collection of everything you have and know.  Your past experience, knowledge, background, and upbringing helps shape brand U.  There is nobody else like you in the world, never has been, and never will be.  And so it is safe to say that your brand is comprised of both personal AND professional characteristics, traits, and skills.  Therefore, as you grow and develop, your brand grows and develops, both personally and professionally.  To maximize such business brand growth, we set professional goals like revenue targets, proposal quotas, skill set development and creative ways to grow our customer base and make more money!  To maximize your personal brand growth, such personal goals are equally important!  Take the time this week, and commit to writing out some personal goals that contribute and compliment your brand.  Be specific like in your business; Use vivid details and draw, envision, and describe what you want!  Find something that will make you really happy – a travel experience, place, concept, goal or outcome.

"Most people don’t aim too high and miss.  They aim too low and hit."  Bob Moawad.
