At Nexion we’re made up by a diverse family of travel professionals from a wide variety of backgrounds, which not only includes experienced agents but extends to individuals new to the travel industry. We work hard to cater to our experienced agents, providing them the continued training they need to strengthen their skills with technology and resources that keep them ahead of the curve. We have also made great strides in creating programs specifically geared to newer agents. Our goal is make sure we offer a wide range of tools, training and resources to help all of our agents be successful.

Many of you have probably recognized the serious shortage of young travel agents in the industry today. With the statistics showing the average travel agent age being 55 and a large number of agents slowly retiring, I see it as imperative as ever to make sure we recruit new travel professionals as well as help train and coach existing agents. It is more important than ever for travel professionals to have the knowledge, tools and training to ensure they maintain their value and keep a competitive edge over the competition such as the internet.

At Nexion, we teach new and experienced travel professionals everything from the basics of how to book travel, to how to brand themselves. Our Boot Camp seminars educate agents of all experience levels on the basics of Nexion’s member benefits and help these business owners become more successful travel professionals. Agent Essentials is an intensive, small-group training seminar for new Nexion agents which allows for individual attention from Nexion staff. Nexion’s PowerUP! along with our Strategic Sales Coaching programs offer agents extensive, one-on-one mentoring from our experienced staff. In addition, Nexion recently launched “Agents Connecting Together” (ACT) to offer peer-to-peer mentoring that allows agents to help each other learn effective new ways of increasing their profits.

The most recent training program that I am excited to share with each of you is Travel Leaders of Tomorrow. Travel Leaders of Tomorrow is a program through Nexion’s parent company, Travel Leaders Group which I am leading. The curriculum will primarily take place in a virtual campus with module-based training and an opportunity for FAM trips and agency internships after certain qualifications are met. Travel Leaders of Tomorrow has a two-fold purpose: first to attract and train new travel agents, and second to place them into existing wholly-owned, franchised or member agencies. Travel Leaders of Tomorrow will offer training through a variety of channels that will not only culminate in providing hands-on practice through agency internships, but ultimately in developing careers as travel agents. In addition to partnering with The Travel Institute on part of the core curriculum and technology platform, program components are being sponsored by a variety of leading travel suppliers, including Azamara Club Cruises, Celebrity Cruises, Delta Air Lines, Funjet Vacations, Globus Family of Brands, Hertz, Marriott International, MLT Vacations, Norwegian Cruise Lines, Royal Caribbean International, Sabre Travel Network, Travel Guard and Travel Insured International.

Travel Leaders of Tomorrow program director, Heather Kindred and I, have three goals for the program. First, we must improve the prevailing perception about the long-term viability of building a career as a travel agent. Second, we must develop a comprehensive curriculum that encompasses where our industry is and will be in a very forward-looking fashion. Third, our participating students must graduate with the necessary knowledge for us to successfully place them into open roles within our existing agencies. If Travel Leaders of Tomorrow can accomplish all three, we believe we’ll have infused the entire industry with the new blood it needs to sustain itself for decades to come.

So whether you are considering a new career in travel or already have a book of business, Nexion has a solution for you. Our agents are gain access to industry-leading marketing, training, and technology resources, helping to further increase their profits. Nexion’s tools and resources along with the Travel Leaders Group hotel programs, Vacation.com‘s award-winning Engagement marketing program, and access to commissionable air contracts through any of the four Global Distribution Systems (GDS) or through our online booking tool – are all helping our agents become more successful. Due to our size, strength, and experience, Nexion can offer our agents the opportunity to earn competitive commissions on air, land, and cruise segments. In addition, our tools and technology help make agents more profitable and efficient, thus decreasing their operating expenses.
